Carmelita - We brought Carmelita in after seeing her struggle to survive for months on the streets of Antigua. She got thinner and thinner, sicker by the day, and had a terrible skin problem. We finally picked her up and fell in love with this quiet golden eyed beauty. Carmelita had a terrible time in her months on the street, suffering all manner of abuse. As she got healthier and stronger with us, she also began to become reactive to different situations and people. Carmelita is still very fearful of many different things, and can trigger and bark or lunge at everything from a bicycle to a shoeshine boy. Different things cause her to react on different days. With people she knows and trusts, she is a loving, sweet, and affectionate dog. For this reason, Carmelita is a sanctuary dog, and will live out her life with us in a safe, controlled environment. We feel life in a home has too many unexpected and uncontrolled events in it, and would be just too overwhelming for her. Carmelita is available for sponsorship.
